Ski Pole Radio
Designer: Jonathan Crompton
School: Sherwood, High School
Location: Sherwood, Oregon
My design is for a walkie-talkie that can be applied to the top of a ski pole (or any other surface). It is a simple, compact design that will be lightweight and manageable. The design includes a stylish earpiece, the radio itself, and an extra piece of adhesive Velcro that will allow it to be removable. Usually, one must fumble through their coat to find their radio or risk losing/damaging it by having it attached to the outside of their clothing.
This walkie-talkie will allow the user to communicate with friends on the hill or at the lodge with complete ease. It works just like a regular radio: Volume/on/off knob, channel set, and oversized PTT button (Push To Talk) for use with gloves. Yet, this design will be much more efficient and safe; the user will be able use the radio without being distracted and it will be much easier to access in case of a fall.
